a little too little

When my mom was here, we decided to experiment with sticking Bo in the exersaucer that we inherited from a friend.  Matt does NOT love the exersaucer or the space it takes up in our house . . . but turns out the baby likes it.  So I put him in it every day for a little bit, despite the fact that he's can barely see over the side of the seat.  I just stuff a little burp cloth down in there with him to give some extra support and he stays occupied for a while.

I just get a kick our of his skinny legs sticking out the bottom.

Bo loves looking at the little bee.  It must be the stripes, or maybe because it looks so friendly, but he is entranced.

Sometimes he'll give the flower a moment of his attention . . .

But then it's back to the bee.

(always close by. . . love that face)

Yep, the bee.

tree huggers

If you're a tree hugger, you might want to you avert your eyes and go clicking off on your merry way.  A few weeks ago the lady who owns our rental property came out to look at some things and decided to take down some of the trees around our house, particularly some large evergreens that keep dumping their needles and clogging the gutters.  Basically our house was surrounded on all sides by trees, keeping it pretty dark (a negative) but a little cooler in the summer (a positive).

And then, they were gone.

We love this huge tree in front of our kitchen.

The only problem in my mind was how it prevented grass from growing and some of the branches were pushing up the shingles on the roof.

But the tree guys really went to town and removed some huge limbs, and the little cedar by the steps.

So it changed the look of the house a lot, and it was kind of sad to see the big tree altered.  But on a more positive note, we've got some flowers to cheer us up.

Matt's mom and brother put new potting soil in our planters when the baby was born and my mom planted these impatiens.  They just exploded and look great.

ten weeks

Matt calls this onesie Bo's hippie outfit.  My friend Kate sent it to us and I thought it was cute for the upcoming holiday.  Bo just had a doctor appointment and is now 12 lbs and 24.5 inches, 50th and 95th percentiles, respectively.  He's about to bust out of his 0-3 sleepers.

a bunch of photos

So here's a collection of hilarious shots of Bo you may not have seen . . .

Bo in his baby Snuggie/straight jacket/swaddler.  He still loves this thing and can't sleep without it.

Dressed for success - going to a barbecue for Matt's program.

Happy in the morning.

Not so happy in the morning.

Playing with Coco and the Moosey.

Chillin in his carseat.  We still have some cool days here.

Bleh.

Blue eyes.

New outfit from Coco.  Check out the shoes!  I love.

Hilarious Benjamin Button reading a book.

Perched on the edge of the table.

Playing with his new play mat.  Check out that hand-eye coordination.

father's day

We had a happy little Father's Day.

Bo has a great father.

Some might even say they look alike:

My mom treated us to a delicious brunch that included a Father's Day special of steak and ribs.  That's Matt's kind of brunch. :)

Later that day, the kids I nannied for showed up with a cake for Matt:

And they introduced Bo to his first inchworm.

Until the inchworm "accidentally" fell behind Bo into his carseat and Mommy set the inchworm free.

I'm so glad for a day to celebrate Matt's role as a dad.  He takes it seriously, and I know he'll be there for Bo as an example of a godly leader.

We love him very much.

nine weeks

I admit I almost forgot to take Bo's 9 week picture . . . losing steam already?  This was after bath time and right before bed, thus the tired eyes.  Bo had a big day.  He went to the hospital for a hip ultrasound - protocol for breech babies.  He charmed everyone in the waiting room and took it like a champ.  And his hips appear to be in great shape.  We thank God for a healthy baby!

Coco's Visit

My mom just left after a great week-long visit.  It was perfect timing for me, as Matt put in a few 15-hour work days last week and it would've been a rather depressing time for all of us if she hadn't been here.  As it was, it was just a depressing time for Matt.  The long work days, that is.  But part of my mom's visit included some prolonged one-on-one time with Bo while Matt and I went to the city for the day.

It was pretty great to get out and enjoy NYC.  It was one of the best trips we've had, I think, just because everything went really smoothly, we spent time in the same area all day, and scored some great deals.  I went to the MOMA for the first time (free after four on Fridays) and saw so many famous works, it was incredible.  Picasso, Matisse, Dali, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Monet, Warhol, Pollock . . . oh my.  Matt's more the art expert but even little old me could appreciate the collection.

Recognize this?
I've actually been to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam and remember being annoyed that Starry Night wasn't displayed there . . . but I got to see it after all!

I had no idea that Monet's water lilly series were painted on such huge canvases.

We managed to snag some great tickets for House of Blue Leaves, a play starring Ben Stiller and Edie Falco.  So that was great.  But although we enjoyed the freedom of traipsing about the city, we still missed our little Bo Bear . . . and got him his first tool set at the amazing FAO Schwarz.

Besides letting Matt and me run around town, my treated us to some great meals and fun times.  She decided she needed to try out the kayak before she left, so we dragged it out of storage and cleaned out all the dead leaves and spiders that had taken residence in it.  We threw it in the truck and drove it down to the water and I talked her through where to go.  But then she got cold feet when I told her you had to walk through the grass to get to the water and insisted I do it first to show her how.  So I got in our yellow kayak to show her how easy it was, and then our neighbor appeared and lent us her kayak, so we got to paddle around in the sun together.

Unfortunately, I didn't bother checking the tides, so we had a harder time getting out than in.  I plodded through the pluff mud rather unsuccessfully as it tried to swallow my flip-flops with each step.  There was some shrieking and laughing involved . . . after witnessing my struggle, my mom opted for a different, more clean route.

stinky mud.

We had a real Long Island experience the day before she left.  We picked up sandwiches at a classic deli in town and took them down to the harbor to eat them.

Coco and Bo

and since I never get pictures with Bo . . .
Somehow he looks really old here, or something.

We enjoyed her visit and look forward to the next one!!
